Turmeric Tonic Concoction
Not only is Turmeric Tonic healthy for you, it’s also a great way to keep cool during these hot Maui days. This version is our “go to” when we need a natural boost to get going. In fact, instead of my morning coffee, I turn to a glass of Turmeric Tonic to get rid of morning grogginess. Dr. Oz also notes that, “Not only does turmeric increase antioxidant levels, it may also help ward off heart attacks and reduce inflammation in the body.” And… come on… Dr. Oz knows best, right?
There’s something in turmeric called curcumin. It has been studied for its ability to prevent premature aging, reduce depression, manage arthritis and blood sugar, and act as a painkiller, among other things. Sounds good, right?
Whether or not turmeric has special healing properties or not, this recipe will put a zing in your step with such ingredients as turmeric (of course), ginger, orange, lemon, chili pepper, and a touch of maple syrup to round up the taste. The pepper is an important ingredient since it helps activate turmeric’s magic powers. I even add a pinch of cayenne pepper in my glass right before I drink it all down. Cheers!
This vibrant drink is actually sunrise in your glass. Turmeric Tonic will put a zing in your step by increasing antioxidant levels, reducing inflammation, and warding off dreaded heart attacks.
- 2 inches fresh turmeric root or 2 Tbsp. powder
- 1 inch fresh ginger root or 1 Tbsp. powder
- 1 lemon peeled and cut in half
- 1 orange peeled and cut in half
- 1 chili pepper deseeded
- 2 Tbsp. maple syrup or agave
- 4 cups cold water
- 2 dash Cayenne powder optional
Process orange, lemon, turmeric, ginger (no need to peel) and chili pepper in juicer.
In a large pitcher, pour in juice, add in 2 Tbsp. maple syrup and 4 cups of water. Stir well.
Garnish with a couple pinches of Cayenne pepper. Serve right away. Enjoy!
